Christmas Presents from Amok

A while ago, Amok asked GRRM for descriptions for some of the important Targaryens that never ruled, and as such weren’t included among the portraits in the artbook. GRRM recently replied that he was too busy to supply descriptions for them all at this time, but that he would try to send a some now and then. He did, however, send descriptions for two of them: Visenya and Rhaenys, Aegon the Conqueror’s sisters and wives.

You will find the descriptions on Amok’s forum and the portraits in his artbook gallery. Amok has also put up one other new painting in his main gallery, showing the three Targaryen siblings and their dragons on the Field of Fire.

Word from Testor

The recent addition of a number of new images of Testors resin miniatures sparked so much interest and discussion that a member of the company posted to the forum, answering many of the questions and comments that had been made to date.

GRRM’s official site has been updated with new material in "Cover Art", "From My Readers" and "News". The last of these concerns news related to Subterranean Press’s limited editions of “A Song of Ice and Fire” and GRRM: A RRetrospective, as Subterranean offers a special deal on purchasing both sets of books.

Software Upgrade

Version 1.4 of ExpressionEngine, the excellent content management system we use to handle all the dynamic data on the site, was released today. As some of you may have noticed, we experienced some small problems while upgrading our site, but that has all been fixed now, and we hope to soon be able to take advantage of some of the new features offered in 1.4 to enhance the site further.

By the way, pMachine now offers a free version of ExpressionEngine, called ExpressionEngine Core, and we can really recommend this to anyone looking for a great blogging system. Its more powerful and more flexible than anything else we’ve tried.

SF Site Readers’ Choice Awards

It seems it’s that time of year for SF/F sites to host end-of-the-year awards, because SF Site has gotten into the game with its 2005 Readers’ Choice Awards. Instructions can be found here. In 1999, A Clash of Kings took the #1 place. In 2000, A Storm of Swords took first place as well. After five years, can A Feast for Crows
continue the sweep?

2005 Asimov’s Reader Awards

Asimov’s Science Fiction, one of the top SF/F fiction magazines, is holding its annual reader awards for the best works published in their pages. GRRM is nominated in the “Best Novella” category for the story “Shadow Twin”, written in collaboration with Daniel Abrahamson and Gardner Dozois. It’s an excellent story, among other excellent stories in the magazine. Vote now!

New Miniatures Images

Testor has sent us fifteen new images of prototypes for their line of “A Song of Ice and Fire” resins. These can be seen at All Sorts of Weird Stuff’s gallery. For the first time, we get an idea of what the resins may look like once painted, as there’s a (very large) image featuring a number of Stark figures (plus Theon Greyjoy) captured at various moments from A Game of Thrones.
