Making Game of Thrones: Dragon’s Breath

Over at the official Making Game of Thrones production blog, Cat Taylor shares a scene from early in the fourth season filming, when the production put together some tests to simulate visual effects for the dragon flames that will be seen this season. Here’s an excerpt, right from the end:

As the dragons grow and start to test their power, their fire breathing will get stronger and more powerful. The Dragons are legend for a reason and this season we will get a hint of why. The final tally, 22 canisters and 400 litres of gas â`“ all for just one day in Essos.

More on the Princess and the Queen

This past weekend, George R.R. Martin was the guest of honor at Capclave 2014, an annual SF/F convention in the Washington D.C. area. Besides hanging out with fans and signing books, Martin had not one, but two reading sessions. Thanks to fans on the scene, we’ve a number of reports from the event. On the first day, Martin read from “The Princess and the Queen”, his contribution to the Dangerous Women (Preorder: Amazon US, Amazon UK) cross-genre anthology that Martin has co-edited with Gardner Dozois.

A Notable Casting

Word’s out that an actor has been cast in a role that is, frankly, something of a spoiler… so see below the cut for the relevant information

Visit Old Mars

The latest anthology edited by George R.R. Martin and Gardner Dozois, Old Mars, has hit shelves. With a fine group of contributors—including award-winning authors such as Ian McDonald, Michael Moorcok, Mike Resnick, and Howard Waldrop—the collection presents science fiction tales inspired by the classic depiction of Mars as a place of ancient alien civilizations and great canals.

Over at Tor.com, Robert Bedford provides a review of the anthology, highlighting several notable original stories.

New Figurines from Dark Horse

The three new figures will be joining the Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen figures that Dark Horse announced back in July. And who are these three figures? None other than Tyrion Lannister, Ned Stark, and Khal Drogo.
